Looking for something helpful to read but not sure where to turn next? Here’s two of the best books I finished last month. Perhaps one of them might bless you as they did me.
Every Good Endeavor: Connecting Your Work to God’s Work by Tim Keller
How should your faith in Jesus affect how you work? Is Christian “ministry” more valuable work than so-called “secular” work? Does faithful Christian work mean always share the Gospel, or only work on “Christian” projects? Does Jesus even care how, why, or where we work? These questions and more are brilliantly answered by Tim Keller in Every Good Endeavor. I highly recommend this book for the Christian seeking to honor Christ in the workplace.
Assured: Discover Grace, Let Go of Guilt, and Rest in Your Salvation by Greg Gilbert
Do you ever doubt your salvation? Years ago I heard a fire-and-brimstone “revival” preacher say, “if you’re not 100% sure, you’re 100% lost.” While comments like these may crowd an altar or fill a baptistry, they do little to comfort the doubt-riddled soul. Even worse, they direct the doubter even deeper into his own soul rather into the arms of Jesus and His Word. Anyone who has been troubled by careless teaching on the doubt in the Christian life will be comforted by the counsel of pastor Greg Gilbert. Assured is a careful, biblical, Christ-exalting look at the Christian doctrine of assurance. We don’t find assurance first and foremost by looking into ourselves, but by gazing deeper into the glories of the Gospel. If you’ve ever struggled with doubt, do your soul a favor and read this book.
