Through the years I’ve found Presbyterian pastor Kevin DeYoung to be a clear-head and biblically-rooted guide to thinking through a host of controversial issues. He did not disappoint in a series of articles he wrote in summer 2020 about racial tensions. Those articles have been converted into a free eBook.  

 

How to Give and Take Criticism like a Man

I realize not all of my readers are men, but all of us give and receive criticism. Or at least we should. I firmly believe that as the Gospel sinks deep into your heart and mind it should toughen you up a bit. Not that you’re no longer tender and compassionate, but you learn to develop what David Mathis calls a “gospel-conditioned thick skin” (Habits of Grace, 192). This article isn’t written from a Christian perspective, but its loaded with practical advice on giving and receiving criticism.
