Several years ago the Huffington Post boasted an article with this title: "What Jesus Says About Homosexuality." Beneath the title was a picture of a blank-paged Bible, and four simple words: "He doesn't mention it." [1]
Was Jesus really silent on such an important topic? Did He say anything to help us navigate the cultural confusion about sex, gender, and marriage?
With God’s help, I hope to show you that this accusation simply isn’t true. Beginning this Sunday night from 5:30-6 PM we’ll explore what Jesus really said about marriage from Mark 10:1-12. We’ll stick with our new TableTalk format as we explore what Jesus taught about the purpose, pattern, persons, and permanence of marriage.
And in case you’re wondering, it’s not a coincidence that we’re discussing these issues during the month of June, what’s often celebrated as “Pride Month” in our culture. The truth is many people are proud about these things. But the Christian is called to follow in Jesus’ footsteps, including in what we think and feel about sex, marriage, and gender. Nevertheless, we must also learn to love those whom we disagree with. We must labor to see them as captives, not combatants. Who better than “the friend of sinners” to help us do that well?
I sincerely hope you’ll join us on Sunday nights over the next few weeks as we examine these issues together.
